We didn't know what his relationship with his brother would look like. Now we know it is everything we could have hoped and wished for.

New Parents

Are you a new parent or expecting a little one with Down syndrome? Congratulations! As I was told when our little guy was born, you've just won the lottery! This may sound a little facetious, only the thing is, she was being sincere. Despite the challenges and the hardships, from what I've read and seen, the vast majority of parents who have a child with Down syndrome eventually come to agree that they wouldn't change their child for anything. This syndrome is in the chromosomes - the DNA. It's a part of who they are to their very core. It's a part of what makes them beautiful and unique and special. It's a part of what connects us together as one large extended family.

You are probably full of questions and experiencing the full range of emotions. This is normal, completely understandable, and expected. Let yourself grieve and be assured that many of the parents in our group felt exactly the same way in the beginning. Then, when you're ready, educate yourself and connect with our incredible community. Through education and connection comes understanding and acceptance. The WWDSS strives to help with your education, as well as providing our support, encouragement, hope and a whole community of families to support you in your journey.

As New Parent Program Coordinators, we can't wait to meet you and make sure you have the information you need to start this new adventure - please contact us:
